Texture quality

What the Low, Original, HD and Ultra levels mean, how much video memory they need and how to download the HD packs right inside the game.

Besides the game’s original textures, Orelia offers upscaled texture packs: the textures were brought to double (HD) or four times (Ultra) the resolution with an in-house tool, using AI upscaling among other methods. Armour, ground, trees and even item icons become much sharper.

The levels

  • Lowhalf resolution, needs only a quarter of the video memory. Good for very weak PCs.
  • Originalthe textures from the classic game. The default.
  • HDdouble resolution from the HD pack.
  • Ultrafour times the resolution from the Ultra pack. Looks best but needs the most video memory.

If a texture is missing from the chosen pack, the game falls back to the next level down: for Ultra first HD, then the original.

What changes

  • 3D world: characters, monsters, terrain, water, sky, weather and effects.
  • Icons: weapon, armour and other item icons get sharper with HD and Ultra, especially with a larger interface or a high resolution. Their size in your inventory stays the same.
  • Not affected are the windows themselves – their look stays pixel-exact.

Low only shrinks 3D textures, not icons.

Switching levels

The switch is instant: the game swaps textures over the next few moments while you keep playing. The chat tells you how many textures now come from the pack. Type /textures at any time to see which level is active and whether the packs were found.

Getting the HD and Ultra packs

The packs are large, so not everyone has them installed. You can download them right in the game:

  1. Open the options – Display tab, the Textures setting.
  2. Pick a pack – a missing pack is marked (download) in the list. Below it you see how much has to be downloaded.
  3. Click Get – the download starts and the row shows the progress.
  4. Keep playing – once everything is there, the game switches to the new pack without a restart.

Cancel stops the download – files that are already finished are kept. After an error, Retry starts again. Every file is verified before it is used, and the launcher remembers the pack and keeps it up to date with future patches.

Video memory and disk space

The Ultra pack is very large – most recently around 11 GB – and needs a lot of video memory. The Limit huge textures option in the Display tab (on by default) loads the very largest uncompressed textures at HD size only, which saves video memory.

Which level fits?

Graphics card with little memory or integrated graphics: Low or Original. Current graphics card: HD. Plenty of video memory and disk space: Ultra.
