Text and scaling

Make the interface and text bigger or smaller, get crisp text on high-resolution screens and use your favourite font in the game.

The game’s interface was originally built for small screens. On Orelia you can scale windows and text freely, the text stays sharp, and you choose the font yourself.

Overview

  • Scalinggrow or shrink interface and text together from 75 to 250 %
  • Sharp texton scaled screens (such as 4K at 150 %) nothing gets stretched and blurred anymore
  • FontSegoe UI, classic Verdana, installed fonts or your own

Scaling the interface and text

The Display tab has the Interface and text scale slider:

  • It goes from 75 to 250 % in steps of 5.
  • While you drag, only the number changes – the value is applied when you let go.
  • Windows at the edge of the screen stay at the edge; all others keep their relative position.

With Follow the Windows display scaling the game simply uses your Windows scaling. This is the default. If you drag the window to a screen with different scaling, the game follows along.

Limit on small windows

To keep everything on screen, there is always at least an 800 × 600 area left. If your window is too small for the chosen value, the largest possible one is used – the slider shows this as, for example, “150 % (max 125)”.

Sharp text

On screens with Windows scaling, Windows used to stretch the game like a picture – everything went soft, text most of all. Now the game uses the real screen pixels. On top of that, letters are now properly smoothed instead of being drawn jagged and bold.

Because interface and text grow together, text still fits its windows, buttons and buff icons even at a large scale.

Choosing a font

Display → Font sets the font for all text: windows, tooltips, chat, names in the world and window titles. The change applies instantly.

  • Default (Segoe UI) – the new default: narrower, calmer and easier to read at small sizes than Verdana. Long labels get cut off less often.
  • Classic (Verdana) – the font of the classic interface.
  • Installed fonts – recommended fonts found on your PC, such as Tahoma, Arial, Calibri, Roboto, Open Sans, Lato or Bahnschrift.

If you use a different interface theme, the game remembers your font choice separately for each theme.

Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Thai

These languages keep their own font by default, because Segoe UI lacks their characters. An explicit choice still applies.

Adding your own font

  1. Get a font file – in .ttf, .otf or .ttc format.
  2. Drop it into the folder – the Fonts subfolder of your game folder.
  3. Restart the game – the font then shows up in the list.

The font is loaded for the game only; nothing is installed into Windows.

Windows with long descriptions that are open right now only re-wrap their text the next time you open them. After switching fonts, just close and reopen them.
